BACKGROUND

 

In the early 2000s, when internet-based businesses were just opening up in India, Vasupal began his stint with business by developing websites for small companies. The beginning proved promising and Vasupal earned a comfortable revenue stream of $ 4500 per quarter. Given the uncertainty in internet businesses, however, Vasupal decided to move on to something bigger and more independent and sustainable. The idea and initiative to start a firm occurred to Vasupal in 2003 when he acquired a deeper understanding of the online business models and segments. After combing through various avenues like books e-tailing and real estate classifieds, he, along with his colleagues, Sachit Singhi (Singhi) and Rupal Surana (Surana), narrowed down their focus to the hospitality industry. Vasupal had noticed that the hotel sector in India was extremely fragmented and had the space for a holistic model that could consolidate the requirements of customers from diverse segments..
